How to make your patterns look more professional
Do you find it hard to be a beginner at something? Would you like to just be a pro straight away? To skip all of those 10 000 hours that everyone is talking about that you need to spend honing in on that skill to become good at it? Well here's a news flash for you - there’s not many creative skills that you can find in this world that you can just start at and be a pro straight away. In fact there’s probably NO creative skill like that.
When I first started to learn how to make patterns a few years ago I didn’t even think that I could draw. I’ve always been creative, but I actually never valued my creativity or thought that I was any good at drawing until I really honed in on my pattern design passion.
And do you know what made me good at it? Practicing, experimenting, creating, creating and CREATING more and more patterns for hours and hours. In fact it wasn’t until I found myself in a situation where I spontaneously adopted my sweet little dog Mickan and needed to move out of town - due to many reasons, but the dog and how she couldn’t handle to live in town was one of the reasons why I moved. So I moved back to the island where I grew up and from nowhere I instantly got so much time just by myself creating.
I moved to the island just a few weeks before my 5 week long summer vacation and during that summer I spent several hours every day creating patterns. Drawing, honing in on my new skills, experimenting and trying things out. I started to create patterns a few months before that when I lived in an apartment in town, but it wasn’t until that summer when I moved out to the island and really dedicated myself to my creativity that I actually started to get good at it.
It isn’t easy to be a beginner, but when you are one you should remember to not compare yourself with those who have many more years of experience. Start where you’re at. Everything is a process and if you dedicate to your creativity for as little or as much time as you have to spare - I promise you that you’ll get better and better and one day you’ll find yourself being really good at that creative skill. And that my friends is a feeling that is truly fulfilling.
